To understand The Roots of Chicha 2, you must first understand what chicha is. Named after the Peruvian corn beer, chicha music ferments traditional Peruvian music in urbanizing electrification. With a bit of psychedelic distortion on guitars and the best in Andean rhythms, chicha came to life in the 1960s and 1970s in the new slums of Lima, Peru.
On The Roots of Chicha 2, the second in this series exploring chicha music, you'll hear upbeat, psychedelic guitar riffs and solos in the keys of Peru. You'll hear vocals in Spanish, complicated, trancy rhythms, rock bass and the odd dub-like background addition. All of the music on Chicha 2 is from the years 1968 to 1981. Whether you like South American music or psychedelia, whether you seek music of the people or you seek something groovy, chicha music will grab your attention. The CD comes with a booklet of information on the music and the bands featured on the album.
